INVITING CAPE TOWN HOME-SCHOOLERS
JOIN OUR LEARNING CENTRE @88 IN RONDEBOSCH
The challenges faced by online learners and home schoolers are:
- developing a proper structure or schedule of study;
- finding immediate support when they have questions; and
- the lack of social interaction and co-working with other learners
The challenges faced by learners at mainstream school are:
- lack of individual attention due to large class sizes or disruptive classmates;
- a toxic social environment leading to anxiety;
- the waste of time on non-academic activities that result in a long and unproductive school day;
- the limited range in choice of subjects, if any choice at all
Our Learning Centre addresses all of these needs, under the guidance of an experienced team led by PhD, Ivy League graduates, backed by a team of carefully selected and trained teachers.
OUR SERVICE
The Chapel Lane Academy has been successfully supporting Cambridge learners aged 12-19 in working towards matric and university exemption for several years. We offer a very broad and interesting range of subjects at all levels, taught either individually or in small groups of no more than five students.
Learners register with our Academy for a supervised and strongly supported programme of study with a team of highly qualified and experienced teachers. Learners at our Learning Centre are offered a blended learning combination of online and in-person classes. Our Academy is further known for our unique 24/7 direct teacher support of our learners – unrivalled by any programme of study in South Africa.
A senior Centre Manager is on site at our Learning Centre and is responsible for operations. Our Facilitating Teachers are in attendance during hours of operation to teach their subjects; assist learners with their study planning; and answer questions on subject matter.
We broadly follow the Western Cape school calendar and are open 08h30-13h00 Mondays to Fridays.

OUR LEARNERS
Our learners are a fascinating mix of young people who for a variety of reasons decided that the daily brick and mortar schooling environment does not suit their needs. We TEACH:
- young professional sport stars or performing artists who cannot afford the time to sit at school for 7 hours a day;
- neurodiverse students who prefer the quieter, smaller and academics-first learning environment;
- highly specialised students who want to put all their energy into only those subjects in which they wish to pursue a career;
- students who for health, family or personal reasons had their learning interrupted and prefer to work at their own pace;
- students whose families are moving abroad in the future and who wish to switch to the high quality international curriculum in preparation.
We offer an extremely bespoke learning environment and work out a unique programme of study and exam target dates for each learner, based on past progress, personal factors and future plans.
OUR FEES & SCHOLARSHIPS
Monthly attendance at the Learner Centre costs R4,500. Learner who are enrolled with The Chapel Lane Academy for all their subjects pay a subsidized rate. Registration is per 6-month semester.
We take a cooperative approach with our attending families to create a safe, friendly and homely atmosphere conducive to learning. We make a variety of scholarships available for new learners who have performed at a 75% and higher academic average in prior years and with demonstrated financial need.

ABOUT US
Preceding Covid, Dr Tanya Goodman (PhD, Yale) and Dr Charl du Plessis (PhD, UVA; MBA, Yale), started to develop one of South Africa’s most reputable programme for learners in pursuit of their Cambridge qualifications. With a remarkable team of qualified teachers that includes several PhD’s with many years of experience, our organic growth stems from our high level of instant support, well-structured methodology and exceptional care for each learner’s circumstance and needs. Most of our learners join our programme on the recommendation of trusted family friends whose children have studied with us.
Reputation matters. Yet, more importantly is the interest of each child. For this reason, we have learned to believe that a quality education is not scalable. Smaller is better, without any doubt. This perspective sets us significantly apart from an online and homeschooling industry dominated more and more by large corporates in pursuit of profit.
While several of our online students join us daily from as far as Europe, the US, the Middle East and the rest of the African continent, our Learner Centre in Rondebosch offers local Capetonians the opportunity for blended (online and in-person) learning.
Our network of professional service providers includes educational psychologists, career and other counsellors, occupational and speech therapists and The Neurodiversity Centre.
